Want to develop enviable iPhone or iTouch typing speeds? Try out the new Wordpress app and blog on the go. Not only will the practice help you get faster, but your posts will probably be better too. When you have to type at iPhone speeds (even at your crazy-ridiculous speed) you limit yourself to only the essentials out of necessity. Everybody prefers concise, simply worded posts.

Back to iPhone typing speeds. The first key to increasing your speed is to practice. That’s kind of obvious. Yet many people just don’t quite get enough practice to get over the iPhone typing speed hump. You’ll know if you are one of these people if you only use your iPhone for Twitter or SMS. Sure that’s generally most of what you want to be doing with your iPhone / iTouch, but once you’ve invested the time to get the hang of typing quickly, these tasks will be that much easier for you. In the end you will use your device more and you will enjoy it more too!

So what are the typing techniques that yield the fastest typing? Well, there’s the oldschool thumb method. Thumbs can get around this little keyboard pretty fast. However, I find that they aren’t as accurate and they get sore quick too. Then there’s the one-handed index finger method, which I find is actually surprisingly fast and accurate. Finally there’s the one thumb and one index finger method. The way this works is you hold the iPhone with one hand and you type with that hand’s thumb. With the other hand you can steady the device with your middle finger and your thumb, leaving your index finger free to type. This is the method I use as I find it is the best of both worlds. Of course everyone will need to find what works best for them. Share your iPhone typing technique in the comments.

Bonus Tip: learn to use the iPhone’s suggestions liberally for that extra speed boost.

My much-anticipated one-of-a-kind print from Niki Brown has arrived! Not only is the print itself lots of fun, but Niki decorated the shipping envelope with a moving piece entitled, “Cupcake O’ Doom!” - which I might have to frame and put alongside my Angry Squirrel. Definitely made my day. I think I’m going to have to redesign my office around it. Thanks Niki!

Getting out there, trying stuff, throwing it all up on the wall to see what sticks, shaking hands, connecting with people, screwing up - that’s what it takes to change the world. That’s what it means to be the Unreasonable Man.

I feel like I should mention Thomas Edison right about now. Don’t worry, I won’t.

The fact is, I’ve been too much of a coward procrastinator, or, as I prefer to call it, a perfectionist. But whenever I take a step forward and lay it on the line, I find that I’m greatly rewarded and I always move a bit closer to my goals one way or another. Sure, looking back there are a lot of choices that weren’t right or missteps that I wish I could undo (where’s the cmd-z for life?) - but there’s a lot more I wish I *had* done. The good news is, it’s not too late.

Half a year ago I was trying to build my client-base so I sent out postcards to some prospects. One of the meetings that resulted from the follow-up calls turned out to be an impromptu interview for my dream job of heading up marketing for a hot tech startup. I wasn’t looking for a job, but I was laying it on the line. I landed the job. The experience was fantastic. It confirmed for me that I should probably not be an employee and I am, in fact, made for entrepreneurship. I also learned the importance of building a business on a market for a product, as opposed to the following Three Phase business plan from the one scene of South Park I’ve watched that didn’t horrify me enough to instantly change the channel:

Phase 1: Collect Underpants
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit

(see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Gnomes_plan.png)

Ok, fine, maybe the flopped startup isn’t the best example in the world. I could’ve used the mundane one where I joined a business networking group and showed up every week for a month and now I’ve got reams of business coming in. It’s crazy awesome.

The point is to put yourself out there, make some opportunity for yourself, act on that idea, call some prospects, launch that blog, start that business, implement that change, join that networking group - take the first step.

I’ve sent out another batch of postcards, I’m doing the follow-up calls in the next couple days. I wonder where they will take me?

The Unreasonable Man is for people like me who just can’t seem to settle for the way things are. It is about entrepreneurship because being an Entrepreneur is, by definition, about changing the world. Maybe just a little bit. Hopefully for the better.

Let’s be unreasonable together, all progress depends on it.
